I adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards drinking and driving when my sons were little. I had to “walk the talk.” It worked. We got calls like, “I’m spending the night at so-and-so’s house.” Likewise we bunkhoused some of their friends at our place.

Because of this, I got out of the habit of drinking in public. People think I am a tea-totaller. I usually wind up as the designated driver.
