When I responded to your post yesterday marguritem, I hadn’t realized Jeff had a change of mind and and erased his post.
The first four lines of Grok’s post replicates it.
Odd thing is he posted again late yesterday but like the first post says nothing of substance. Another poster named “chance” slamesd him. Looks like a bit of desperation to “defend”, but can’t find a way to do it.
In a way it’s not unlike a funeral. The important thing is to be THERE, show your support and be SEEN to do the decent thing,
The “evidence” is open and shut ! Usual thing of “blame the Editors” won’t work either !
More “stick” for Locher coming next week ! Good thing it’s not “real” like in Iran and Nada !
Nice example Locher is teaching the kids. They are supposed to look up their local policemen as heroes; not card sharks who all carry stacked decks in their pockets. Next thing, Tracy will offer Big Ace a hit off’n his bong.
The comments are what I log on for… but the backward thumb? Finished looking at Vol 7 and have on order 8 (July) and 9 (this Winter) Look forward to meeting Flattop again. (‘43-‘44). I was 10 years old when the bad guys were really bad. If only someone with the talent of Leonard Star (“On Stage with Mary Perkins” - “Annie”) had taken over DT. I never could understand why Locher, being Chester’s apprentice, never captured the original art of the strip for his own. I suggest buying the entire set and have them for your grandkids to know what Dick Tracy was really like. I enjoy your comments, but I don’t think they will change anything, the strip has no substance or direction. At age 76, I’m enjoying the complete 3 Vol set of “Calvin & Hobbes”.
1) The “jd clausen” no comment post above, Would the Praetorian Guard consider that a PLUS or a MINUS for Dick Locher ? Tell me !
2) “morrow” gives us a timely reminder, didn’t Tracy order the Matrix Deck from HQ (6-14-09). How the heck did he get delivery (?) the police are on their way to Jefferson and Earle and haven’t even arrived yet (?) and the Matrix Pack is already at work.
It’s like Tracy starting a sequence without a gun, but suddely, surprisingly finds one is handily there when needed (WOW!). And just moments before it wasn’t..
Little kids aren’t stupid, so Locher and his Acolytes can’t “pretend” that it doesn’t matter because that’s the audience he writes for.
All writers make the occasional mistake but in Locher’s case I think we ought to lend him Tin Cup Joe’s “walking stick”, the man is a walking disaster, a cronic “stumbler”.
Have a Stretcher and Ambulance team standing by, on the ready !
Big Ace loved to stare down his foes while puffing on his cigarette. He got a kick how startled everyone got when he put the cigarette in the small hole he had in the right side of his face.
“Gets them every time”! He thought.
Big Ace was amazed at how easy it was to steal everyone’s money.
“Like taking birdseed from a Magpie”, he chuckled under his breath while waiting for Tracy to pick his card. He figured a few more chumps like this and he’ll finally be able to get that nose job he desperately wanted!
“Oh, to finally have a normal face”, his heart leaped with excitement.
Tracy quickly realized that he needed a witty, awe-inspiring way to buy some time, since he had no clue what to do next.
“I GOT IT”! His minded exploded.
“You first, BIG ACE”.
Dick grinned smugly and arrogantly at Big Ace, feeling empowered like never before!
Big Ace sadly shook his head.
“What a buffoon”, he thought.
Big Ace reached down to his special deck of cards and picked his card, the top one. He already knew what it would be.
“Beat the Ace of clubs, smart boy”.
Big Ace felt like showing off so he held his card with only his thumb, a trick he learned when he was with the Peace Corps.
Tracy was startled by Big Ace’s pick but tried not to show it. He determined to talk tough.
“Ace of clubs, huh”?
Tracy was nervous as he shifted his weight back and forth between his two legs. He hated how he had no control over himself when he got nervous.
Big Ace suddenly started to sniff the air as a sour look appeared on his face.
Tracy’s eyes rolled back and he gritted his teeth when as a force of habit he blurted out;
“My cut!”
Big Ace felt fear for the first time in a long time.
“Big Ace suddenly started to sniff the air as a sour look appeared on his face……”
Bassmanbob, I’m rolling on the floor laughing! You are a hard act to follow. Tracy’s spent so much time around Mattie that the characteristics have rubbed off on him.

So I assume that suit will be the deciding factor? I suppose the ace of spades is next.

My guess is Tracy pulls something like a “4”. That way we’ll get the lame debate on Hi-Low.
