If one does the research honestly, renewable energy sources are much more expensive than fossil fuel. Nuclear, which seems to be ignored, is cheaper and more reliable than renewables. And outside of the Old Soviet Union, no death has been documented as caused by nuclear energy. France and a lot of European countries get a lot of their electricity from nuclear. Also renewable energy sources are a lot more environmentally unsound than is supposed. Reclycling, repurposing, and reusing old, damaged or otherwise unusable solar panels or wind turbines is a no go so far. Straight to the landfill. And things to make solar panel are hard on the environment to get. I read somewhere that the space to keep nuclear waste from enough reactors to power the US for ten years would take up about the space of a average Wal-Mart. Solar and wind take up much more land, often in environmentally delicate areas.
Looking at photos of cities during/after the lock down was enough to convince me that oil and coal are a thing of the past. If we don’t do it now…when…??? The first bites have been taken. It’s now time to chew and swallow a bigger chunk if we expect our future generations to have a decent world.
This is less about fossil-fuels vs. renewable energy than it is about local economies that are dependent on one specific product and when that product falls out of favor, they are in trouble. These local economies need to focus on diversification.

Don’t we still have to prove that a warmer climate is a bad thing?

But if that happens, there will be no more coal mining, thus no more coal miners, but worst of all, no more coal miner’s daughters!

The canary in the coalmine was put there to warn miners of impending danger.
