Fearless prediction: the note says he’s gone to get rid of the football, giving up on his dream for the sake of his family.

Leaving aside my disappointment with Ellie acting so out of character to push things to the pivot of the three most recent strips, the conflict is now firmly established. Hubbs has left to follow his dream. He will succeed or fail in his attempt to make it as a football player. Rather than passively accept “work life in a box,” Hubbs will bet on himself. Ellie said his football lamp (and dreams) belonged in the trash. This saves Hubbs from looking like a heel, as one can clearly argue that the time to pursue athletics passed when he became a husband and father.

The “field of dreams” strips when Hubbs and “Al” first met are excellent. The action on the gridiron—where Ellie showed herself to be quite athletic—was memorable, with dynamic pov and humor (“Sand in my pants!”). Ellie saved “Duke,” which Hubbs took with him. And lest we forget: The happy snowman with his wife, baby, and cat, was wearing a helmet.

Yup, looks like the note and the lamp woke her up! Woo hoo! Now let’s see if she is woman enough to accept the fact she screwed up. I think so, IMO, she is strong willed and she does love him. Sometimes people just need to a solid kick in the pants or heart, whichever is closer:)

Hubbs at a football tryout will have a swarm of other wannabes leaving the field. Either on a stretcher, or out of fear of winding up on one.

Until Ellie shows up as Big Al. She can catch.

Hubbs gets drafted, but only on the condition that Ellie is hired to teach the other players how to catch the ball.

Little Al has a seat on the 50 yard line front row for every game.

Worth waiting for.Worth waiting to see if Bea has better.

I don’t think the note says he’s going to the tryouts. She’d be more angry than sad at that, I think.

I think (still going with my theory) that the note says how he’s gone to “throw away his dreams” and Ellie has realized just what she has done.

She just noticed he is making a lot of spelling mistakes when he writes and thus broke down realizing she married a man who can’t write a proper break up letter. (Just kidding) Good run Bea!

Another option, because of the signature in the 3rd pannel… This is not a signature but an expression of what is written on the note. Hubbs has left her to find solace with a certain BeaR. who knows what’s good for him. She is this kind of horrible person who would postpone her duty because of an husband operation and even have the gall to warn her readers and apologize to them for the delay. Mr Scrooge would not approve!

Hubb’s can tryout for the NFL but doesn’t make it, but afterwards sees some kids playing Football, tells them what they’re doing wrong, is seen by a School Board member and is hired as a Coach. Well, thats 1 possibilty.
