Modern day would be. " You’re cured, but you will have to see me next week for a followup appointment. At $150 an hour your insurance is good for 5 more visits.
My late wife became a psychotherapist at the age of 72. As in intern in Marin County, CA she was forced to deal with complex familial and personal issues when she was least equipped. She told me the goal of the profession is, once certified, to find clients who are merely the “worried well”, who can afford a “rent-a-friend”. There are exceptions but, in general, it’s a topsy-turvy profession.
I just record and watch “Bluey” instead. Gentle and funny. This whole 14 or so months has skewed my viewing and reading habits to wanting a happy ending, but not too long of a wait. I was going to watch The Hobbit and LOTR, but it would take too long to get the end.
The whole Psychiatry shtick is a racket. They’re not really trying to “cure” what you think is wrong with you, they’re trying to teach you to accept it.

The problem is the guy got the wrong “cure” at the wrong time.
He should have stopped until he clubbed Jane.
She would have either pulverized him,
Or married him.
Either way, he would have been “Cured.”

Reminds me of the cardiologist they sent me to. He declared me totally healthy and then wanted me to come back every six months.

I almost became a psychologist. Then I asked myself, “Are you crazy?”
