I love the bonus “throw-away” panel.

If the guy on the couch is Modern Man, what species is the kid looking at him? If the kid is Modern man as well, shouldn’t he be on the couch too?

Please remember that during the day, modern man is inventing new kinds of TV and baking new kinds of pizza.

Again, another Original series Twilight Zone touched on this (and Lost in Space Ripped it off in 1967). In the 1960 episode “People Are Alike All Over” astronauts land on another planet and meet locals (aliens). Later they are set up in a nice suburban home. The one astronaut comments on how nice people are all over, after the other didn’t want to originally make this trip. In the typical, last minute Twilight Zone twist, the drapes open, and we see a bunch of locals peering in through the window. The camera switches to the outside, where we see a sign reading: “Earth Creature in his native habitat” Yep, people are the same all over.

Would have identified with that depiction if the TV had been a deep-box CRT. Wired game controller?

The tragedy of modern man is not that he knows less and less about true life, but that it bothers him not a whit.
