Not remotely like any Fleischer cartoons that come to my mind (though I don’t deny that many of them failed to hold my interest). Are there any particular Fleischer cartoons this is meant to evoke?
Note to neophytes: Some Fleischer cartoons are really enjoyable even today!
I’m currently reading Wild Minds by Reid Mitenbuler about the early years of animation. MeTV is currently rerunning the old Popeyes, and in black and white even. I keep forgetting to watch.
Not a bit like Betty Boop or the Superman cartoons. More like early Disney. From the beginning to today, animation has had a very strong “Look what we can do” aspect to it. Much of American animation today seems like a junior year project at Cal Arts. Pixar/Disney can tell a good story, but they rely on special effects too much and are no Studio Ghibli or Studio Ponoc in the story department unless Brad Bird is involved.

Even at 8mm, you’re not going to get three hours out of reels that size. During the reel change, the family can make a break for it.
