There’s Kipling’s version in the Just So Stories, which I remember from when I was little; I think my father read it to me first.
Are children still allowed to read Kipling? That’s a genuine question. Seems like some people would label him “problematic” these days, but I might be assuming too much.
Alice’s four-year-old imagination blends a rudimentary knowledge of elephants (and, it seems, mastodons—I guess Blisshaven must have done a fieldtrip to the local natural history museum at some point) and observations at home into a credible mix. Kevin offers a simpler alternative take (Occam’s Razor, you know). Miss Bliss saves Alice from committing assault, and poor Nara yet again is thrust into the rôle of Safe Back-up while Alice is in the Penalty Box….
(Did you notice my Old Guy’s imagination back in that first parenthesis?)

Obviously, Kevin’s story is a lot more factual than Alice’s.
