    And no, this is not how they show affection, this is how they establish dominance. Or in the words of a dog trainer my parents know: If a dog doesn’t look away when a human looks it in the eyes, it’s badly trained.

    My dog looks everyone in the eye. He likes you to look right back and talk to him…..and he is a big dog.

    Most dogs/predatours take direct eye contact as challenge and if the contact is long enough and teeth/smile is included, the challenge will be met..
