In one of his dime stores my dad took on a partner. The partner was a good natured guy who was considerably more personable than my dad. An obnoxious woman, a regular customer, got into it with my dad one day. She pointed to the partner and said, “I’m giving my money to him from now on.”

I remember my dad telling a customer that if his friends were as stupid as he was then we didn’t need their business either
