Most unusual. “Tonsils out” was something wedged in between Measles & Chicken Pox, for most kids in those days! All I remember is the endless ice cream!
I had my tonsils out twice … ’59 and ’61 … and I vividly remember the expensive red T-Bird convertible that con artist / quack drove around in.
I still have my tonsils and was one of the few kids that never got measles, chicken pox or mumps. I did have pertussis though. I asked my doc several years ago about the measles and chicken pox vaccines (they weren’t given when I was a kid) but he said at my age, they would most likely give me the disease which is much worse in older adults than in kids.

I remember that. I still have my tonsils too. Maybe I’ll say the same thing to my grandchild if I ever have one and if s/he ever asks.

My generation, it was tonsils – my brother washed & I avoided that. My kids avoided the ubiquitous tubes in the ears. What is the current fad?
