I used to have 3 pet Emus. Hes got the “expressions” down perfectly.

either he landed on the oyster and got a lot of bruises or landed in the emu farm and got a lot of bruises

I also love the dinosaur-like mien of those scary emus. Emosaurus horribilis. The steamily redolent-of-dead-bivalves pile of shells is a vivid menace of its own kind.

And the cranky curmudgeon (of which there are enough in this strip to imagine that they have a secret fraternal lodge unknown to most of this Snug little Harbor) has a valid point.

those emus don’t look particularly fond of that wagon, probably the same way with the shopping cart!

Apparently,the wagon is also handy for hauling your lazy seagull around town.

When my mother was in her seventies, she started answering the phone with Howdy!- it was annoying at first but then I realized she might have been doing it for the same reasons as your friend. Now that Mom is gone, I rather miss hearing that greeting.
