    I posit this choice. You decide to sell your home and go live in a condo and live off of your profit. Would you sell and get paid in dollars, gold or bitcoin? No calculators needed. Vaporware is vaporware. How about if you were offered a share of a digital image of Cher’s colonoscopy? Yes it’s share and Cher alike.

    Even “real” money’s value is based on a made-up concept agreed upon by people, so in effect worthless and subject to disappear.

    Mr. Andrew J Capp ain’t wrong. I don’t trust cryptocurrency myself. Generated by computers? Not backed up by any real-world item or bank? No, thank you.

    Andy will always be broke, no matter what the medium of exchange. Bitcoin would crash if it went through his hands!

    Andy’s IOUs are as crypto as currency can get, no one has ever been able to find any value in them.

    I am so glad that I’m too old, too poor, and too ignorant to invest in bitcoins or any other virtual currency. Where I live, cash is still king.

    @Afficionado

    Hey, Affie. I have no idea about any of this stuff either. It’s all mumbo jumbo to me.

    I stayed in today. But I really enjoyed my carvery yesterday. If you see your neighbour walking past your house on CCTV, make a rude gesture to him. He won’t be any the wiser. It will your own little secret glory which you can bask in.

    Stay safe, stay well and stay happy, pal.

    Bitcoin’s value lies in that it cannot be created endlessly. There is a limited amount of it, and it cannot be counterfeited. The Full Faith of the US dollar means that you can trade a dollar in for… another dollar, there’s nothing backing it any more (not for the last 40 years, in fact. Inflation will continually eat away at the dollar. When we get high inflation again (~12%), it’ll devalue the dollar faster.. If it goes to 50% /year or so, our economy will crash, like Germany in the 1920’s or Zimbabwe from 2007 to the present. (they needed wheelbarrows of money at points to buy a loaf of bread, etc.) The US dollar is only as good as the faith the world has in it.

    Last week, El Salvador accepted Bitcoin as legal tender (along with the US dollar, which has been legal tender there since 2001).Other countries with currency issues may follow suit.

    When central banks can create money endlessly, with government approval, inflation is a real concern. It remains to be seen how long the system can stay stable.
