Weeelll… if you mention that you’ve gone many years without an accident, in bed, they have to let you drive… That what they meant, right?

Definition is pretty loose here, isn’t it?

“You can solo, if you have a year of me sitting beside you and no accidents.” At least in some states that’s the first license you get, “Can’t drive without responsible adult in the car.” The law assumes all parents are responsible adults. There’s the joke.

After a few seconds….they get it!

Not sure when the law changed but in the ‘60s in Texas, a 14 year old with classroom and behind the wheel Driver’s Ed could get a full unrestricted license. It was as the Driver’s Ed instructor said to me (I was 16) after finishing a 14 year old’s behind the wheel training, “It’s scary to think he can get a license now.” I had been riding with them (for my training) and I had to agree that kid was scary.

An updating of the classic, “No dog until you can prove you can take care of one.”

Yes, we are.

That is actually pretty clever.

Has he had an accident in the last 12 months? No. Then he can drive right now.

If he has legal access to a vehicle, he can drive anytime he wants, now.

If you haven’t driven up to now, you have your whole life with no accidents, don’t you?

In a similar vein, “We can’t hire you — you don’t have any experience.”
