You’ll get a voucher for a grilled cheese and a small coffee in the students’ cafeteria

They did it to themselves with unbridled arrogance and contempt for anyone not at “their” level.

Last I heard, college faculty was treated with more reverence in Europe. Though maybe that’s changed to this cutthroat model by now. This strip should also show adjunct faculty, cleaning toilets or some such.

I would not knock teaching assistants; I miss the years I was one at Penn State.

Raise tuition, dorm fees, food plan; lower teacher pay, have a huge endowment, pay the football coach more than the president, make students indebted for years after graduation. Aren’t universities supposed to be loftier than run of the mill robber barons?

How about outsourcing teaching to India? Maybe we’d learn to understand people at “customer service”.

Good thing that they are not filling technical jobs. They wouldn’t hire that kid (not enough experience) and would expect that PhD to accept the lowball deal that the kid would accept – AND expect the PhD to be grateful for the “opportunity”…
