Heart has a very diverse set of friends and probably never thinks of them by their race, which is admirable but still doesn’t see herself as having a “race”
If you belong to the majority group you see yourself as normal. If you don’t belong to that you know that many others judge you by how you’re different. You can afford to not think about it if you’re ‘normal’ and don’t have that privilege if you’re ‘other’.
Why does this matter? This is a set up! Even the comics is being political, white against black! This is nonsense! We bleed RED, blood. We are people, stop this NOW!
If it wasn’t race, it would be something else. People are innately tribal, and seek to differentiate the tribes by some characteristic. Tribes typically dislike each other. Race is a tribe, as well as religion, ethnicity, political leanings, and other characteristics.. Some religions are segmented by sect, where each sect is a self-contained tribe, and it is a mortal sin to marry outside your sect. Hindu castes are an example of this.
Eons of “civilization” has done little to erase tribalism, and it manifests itself today in everything.
Tribalism was probably very important in the early caveman days, because it assisted in survival. Not so much today, but the survival instinct lives on in our DNA.
All fine and dandy about the idealistic comments but I wonder how many of the posters live in truly mixed neighborhoods, and go to inter-racial churches, or have made disparaging comments about the “bad” side of towns, or cities, etc…as if normal people didn’t live there, and those places weren’t their homes….
Yes, we do live in a mixed neighborhood and our kids grew up in a highly integrated school system…

None of you should really be “thinking about your race” but we don’t live in that perfect world unfortunately.

Charlotte is correct. Not thinking about one’s race is a white privilege in the US.

“White friend?” Hmm, I wonder what Charlotte will say, when she goes to Heart’s house. “Black freind?”

It’s ok to think about race. If you start thinking about skull shapes though, you might want to reassess things.

Only in the USA and Britain do they see things by color.
Human Race is the only race I recognize.
