I’d settle for learning from the mistakes we keep on making. And making. And making.

In a way Verne is right. Take DeSantis in FL who made it verboten to say climate change, well the government of Miami is rebuilding the infrastructure due to the rising of the oceans. They are getting flooded and that’s a fact that can’t be swept under the rug. Also they plan to replace palm trees with shade trees. Hard to live in a fantasy when your up to your neck in alligators!

Lacking large carnivorous animals, we must depend on selfie taking and viruses to improve the herd.

    Let’s see……

1918 Flu pandemic – lots of non maskers….

The Teapot Dome Scandal, 1923….Warren G. Harding’s administration was rife with corruption – Interior Albert Bacon Fall’s secret leasing of federal oil reserves in exchange for bribes, Attorney General Harry Daugherty, Harding’s longtime campaign manager, was accused of selling government supplies of alcohol during Prohibition, Charles R. Forbes, head of the Veterans Bureau, was convicted on bribery and corruption charges.

Germany, 1933…the burning of the Reichstag exactly four weeks after a chancellor was installed who was elected by promoting hate and fascism….

Vietnam, 1973….America finally leaves after 10 years of “police action”, where we were sure we would be hailed as “heroes” for “liberating” their country….

    Nope.

    Haven’t learned one gdamned thing.

Part of the challenge is that we probably have learned our lessons from the simple mistakes – but it is much tougher to learn a lesson from the complicated problems. So we end up making the mistake of thinking those problems are simple and confuse ourselves …

Except the new mistakes we’ll make will keep making things worse before we can learn from them…
