When I was in undergraduate (1954) all the guys in the dormitory used to wear wooden sandals. They would go “clop-clop”, and we would make them sound “clop-clop clop-clop” while on the stairs. The warden issued an order banning them.

I worked on a converted warehouse once. I had a co-worker who wore heels and you could hear her footsteps from across the building.

I would’ve advocated for doorbells to be called ding-dongs, but there’s a snack for that.

When I was a kid, flip-flops were called zoris after the Japanese sandals they were patterned after.

Years ago, as I was running uphill, I heard a repeating slapping sound. I looked around to find the cause. A young girl was on the sidewalk on the other side of the street, keeping up with me. She was running in flip-flops. She kept up for about 3 or 4 houses.

Reading Billy Summer by Stephen King. Click-clack shoes are a real thing, at least in King land.

Anyone who calls them flip-flops or sandals is a psychopath. They are Jandals and always have been. (New Zealand nationalism be like)
