National Play Outside Day. I can’t. I have to work. And there isn’t much to do outside at work because we have no more annual plants and the mums are not due to arrive for a few more days (right after I start my vacation).

Mead Day. I had to look this one up. Mead Day, on the first Saturday in August, increases awareness and fosters camaraderie among mead makers. A long history and rich craft and trade follow mead where ever it is found. One of the world’s oldest fermented beverages, mead is also called honey wine, ambrosia or nectar. A craftsman combines honey, water, and yeast to make mead. With honey production in high gear, Mead Day shines a spotlight on its key ingredient and the time-honored craft surrounding it. Mead has been known to be called the “ancestor of all fermented drinks.”The flavor of mead varies depending on the ingredients added to the fermentation. Anything from seasonal fruits, herbs, and blossoms can be added. Additionally, some mead makers carbonate their beverages like beer, sparkling cider, or wine. For a more hoppy flavor, makers add hops to the recipe.

My little Oliver doesn’t sit still for cuddles, but he has climbed on my lap sometimes for a snooze. And in the mornings, he likes to climb on my head before I’m ready to get up and he purrs in my ear. But when I evict him from my bed and tell him to go find something else to do, he usually does just that so I can get some more sleep. He’s a pretty good little boy – and growing so fast!

Sounds like all Olivers are sweet.

From yesterday’s comments Dean said, “A few years back we had someone here whose TV started speaking Spanish.”

That was ME!! I had sort of forgotten about my TV doing that. It only did it during certain shows (like the Charlie Brown specials for Thanksgiving & Christmas & stuff). I never did find out what made it do that. That was my old analog TV, which I don’t use anymore. That little problem was one of the reasons why I bought my first flat screen TV. Ah, memories! That TV used to make me so mad! Then my first flat screen annoyed me a lot at first too because I had a lot of pixilated video for a while. I think the TV stations improved their signals so I don’t see pixilation anymore.

Speaking of tvs, the technician came this evening and found a problem in the outside cable box. He fixed it, so I shouldn’t have any more trouble. (Famous last words!)

I was up at my daughter’s house this afternoon and you could actually see the smoke from the wildfires up north drifting into the valley. We will have smog tomorrow. Good day to stay inside.

Also from yesterday’s comments to sweetpeapete – I’m sorry to hear of the loss of your dear donkey, Tinkerbelle. I’ve lost a couple cats to brain tumors too. It’s hard to lose an animal you love. They’re not just LIKE family. They ARE family.

Why does today’s strip remind me of “Are You Being Served?”
