Bet that 9 out of 10 pluggers think they can clean their houses better than any cleaning lady can. They just don’t have the time or strength to do it on a normal basis.;-D
I got in trouble with my first wife because I thought her cleaning before the cleaning person came was funny. I guess that’s another reason why she is an ex.
You don’t hire a cleaning person to do the easy jobs. You hire them to do the hard or messy jobs. They get paid by the hour so you don’t want them to spend their time moving things out of the way, putting dishes in or out of the dishwasher, etc. You want them to change the bedding (it’s a real pain to wrestle with Q and K size beds), dust the ceilings, vacuum, and wash floors, etc. So the obvious solution is to ‘tidy up’ before they get there — get the dishes done, clear papers and knickknacks off surfaces, put away clothes, etc. so they don’t have to guess where things go. The pre-clean tidy also gives you a great reason to nag the male members of the house into picking up their stuff.
I don’t suppose that the John Byrne who contributed this idea is the legendary comic book artist and writer? (Or the Scottish playwright, for that matter?)
Most poor people do the best they can, and realize how hard others work too. Poor people help out more. They also donate a higher percent of their earnings to folks who need it. Because they’ve been there and know what it feels like. Writing a check when you’re wealthy doesn’t mean as much as when you’re just getting by.
after my mother passed away, one of the Hispanic* ladies of our church congregation came to do some cleaning for Dad, brother, and me for a while until Dad started dating again
*she’d write notes for us in Spanish and brother and I — having known Spanish; Dad doesn’t — would attempt our bests at translating what issues or concerns she had

No cleaning lady here. Home is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy. And that’s all you need.
