Whenever I hear someone talking trash about others, I think much more negatively about the speaker than the person being spoken about.

Maybe friendly but still phony. Hollow joy.

They’re also the first to shake your hand when you leave the firm.

That reminds me of the shtick that George Carlin did about how big of a a-hole someone was depending on their proximity.

For me with my toxic soon to be ex MIL it was the opposite, to other people she praised me and said she couldn’t have asked for a better DIL but to my face she treated me like crap and never hid how she felt about me.
