The hard part is trying to make a friend in today’s world. In the “old days” it was so much easier to talk to anybody and do stuff with people. No matter what I do today, nobody is interested in having a real, good old fashioned conversation anymore.

A friend will tell you the truth whether you like it or not. When Jackie Gleason arrived at a restaurant owned by friend Toots Shor. Everyone was glad-handing Mr. Gleason on what a great job he did on his last show when all of a sudden Mr. Shor the owner pipes in: “What are you talking about you stank up the place.” He then went about his business. Some then asks Mr. Gleason how could be friends with someone that rude. He looks the person in the eyes and said: “I can depend on him to tell me the truth.”

We’ve all had our share of “fair weather friends”.

Unfortunately, I’ve lost a lot of friends: AIDS, war, car accident, cancer.

    All Saints’ Day was yesterday.

Or, to look at it another way, your friends are the ones that will tolerate you Auntie.

I guess I’ve been doing it wrong. I find people I’d like to be friends with, not just people and find out if they could be friends.

I’ve lost a couple friends when they wandered down the wrong aisle at the local bookstore.

There are doors into alternate realities All Over those places.
