It’s like those flashing popups that say “This is not a joke, you are the 100th visitor.” But only when that’s actually the truth, even if the scam didn’t know that.

So, are there multiple unicorns out there with that name? Meaning Marigold’s not as special as she thinks?

You know what would be funny for us but cruel irony for Marigold? If her sister Florence won an award.

There was an Oscar winner named Oscar (I googled it), so there’s hope yet for Mari!

I once won the Award at the Awardy Awards for Best Award. It wasn’t very rewarding.

I don’t even know where to start on this one, but I will say that this does seem very Unicorn.

Unfortunately, about 90% of the answers in the FAQ are just “Unicorn!”.

As a challenge, I thought I might try to find a spinor representation of an icosahedron; I wondered if it could have a simple expression with pretty symmetry. While not very difficult to find, the expression was not very simple. It would have to have a form of P^p Q^q R^r, with each of P, Q, and R a rotation of 2pi/5 radians about a different axis; and p, q, and r as integers. The challenge is finding the right axes to use. One needs three rotation axes because an icosahedron has an odd (5-fold) rotational symmetry, so rotation about the Q axis alone cannot take the P axis to -P. With I representing the identity rotation (or no rotation), one can quickly find that rotation about axis P by 2pi/5 has the form [1-e^(2pi i/5))I/2 + (1+e^2p i/5)P/2], where P is a spinor for axis P in this expression.

Spoiler alert: In my next reply I will identify an axis Q for the next rotation.

I could have sworn the icosahedron said “You won initiative; it is now your turn. What would you like to do?”
