So far, no one has been able to offer me a “hearing aid” that does more than amplify the ambient noise level to ear shattering level. I have three tones of tinnitus in one ear and two in the other. I do keep my phone “ear bug” set to highest level so I can hear my phone callers. That call about the expiring warranty on my 20 year old car is most entertaining.
Being hard of hearing doesn’t bother the “deaf” person. It’s only an inconvenience for those of us who live with them.
Hubby doesn’t hear high pitched noises. It’s one thing when I say “How long have the brakes been making that noise?” It’s another when the smoke detector starts blaring and he doesn’t even look up from his book.
Nothing says “OLD” more than constant “What?”. That’s why I have two PSAP (personal sound amplification products). They aren’t hearing aids, because I didn’t pay someone $5000 to ‘fit’ them and a $150 each, I can have a spare handy.
I FINALLY learned to beat my clumsy use of the telephone. On a cordless home phone put it on “Speaker” and turn up the volume, then listen with the phone pressed to your ear. Works great for me. Hope this will help many/many other pluggers.

Tell me about it, I’m talking to the wife with little understanding and she says oh I forgot to put in my hearing aids.

As a Plugger,I’m not hard of hearing, I am just surrounded by people that talk too softly or don’t get my attention first.

It’s hard to read lips with a mask on. Even harder on the phone! :)
