Good comment on unemployment in 1971. I started school that year and became aware of the growing unemployment problem when I was at Junior School in the late 1970s.
Also a good comment on current employment situations except the line is filled with employers watching for the workers they once had. Seems there are more stories of folks who, after having spent the last years at home with their children and out of the office milieu, have decided they want a way to make a living and still have more robust home life.
There once was time in this country when you could work 40 hours a week, your spouse did not have to work, and you retired at 60 with a pension. Today 40 hours a week is barely enough to cover rent and food with dual incomes and you’ll likely never retire. That’s the reality of our economy.
