Only cats that weren’t taught to hunt by their mothers do that. One of ours clearly started life as a barn cat because she kills them quickly and actually eats them.
My cats scream for both appetizer (dry food) and main course (wet food) then walk away. Hoping to raid each other’s bowls, where the food is obviously better than their own bowl.
