Exercise should be fun. I hate jogging. Soooo boring and bad for the knees. Lennie, why not join an “over 40” hockey league? The adult skating world is very welcoming in all disciplines. I’m sure that would be a lot more fun! (of course, as a figure skater, this seems like a perfect suggestion to me).
Defensive jogging applies here. A long time ago, before I started driving, I did a lot of bicycle riding and while on the road I realized that everyone else out there is a jerk. That philosophy has kept me accident free in the years of riding and driving. If you assume everyone is a jerk and is not looking out for you and walk, jog, run, ride and drive defensively then you will be safer.
When my grandfather was teaching my mother to drive, he gave her some very sound advice, and she passed it on to me. I passed it on to my kids and grandson, and you all are welcome to it as well: “EVERYBODY on the road is crazy.”
I have always added: “They are going to do something really stupid. Sometimes it’s YOU.”
I was out for a walk when a lady almost ran me over backing out of her driveway. The only reason she didn’t is that I was watching her. And I yelled at her, “did you even look?” She gave me heck for not paying attention. I thought that was pretty rich. If I’d been some (typically young) person with my nose buried in my cell phone, she’d have creamed me. Not sure she appreciated the life lesson.

And, as I would say to my husband, because you’re Black. People make me ill.

I feel sorry for anyone who was named Karen in that more innocent time.

Just bad timing. Next time you will know that this is the street with the crazy lady and avoid it.

(Sigh!) It’s a reflexive action to blame someone else. (Not an excuse, mind you — it’s an explanation of why some people seem nuts.)

I’m glad she didn’t shoot you.
