Whether it’s spilled on a laptop, notebook, keyboard or in a pluggers case, an actual paper notepad, the end results are the same. Not as expensive. But the same.
Spilled coffee on my detachable keyboard. Washed it under running water. Let it dry off. Works just fine. Don’t like laptop keyboards for so many reasons.
Pull the battery out, if possible. Rinse laptop (or phone) out with copious amounts of distilled or reverse osmosis water (tap water will cause corrosion in the long term). Shake out excess water. Place the laptop on the surface of rice or silica gel desiccant in the bottom of a five gallon bucket for 24-48 hours. Do not shove the laptop into the desiccant unless you like crunchy keyboards.
(I’ve rescued several dunked phones and laptops over my career. For all our sakes, don’t use your phone in the bathroom.)
My wife used to do that at her work station, my pregnant step-daughter had something else in mind for the keyboard. We always kept two new ones on top of the server rack
I remember WWAAAYYYY back when I used to have a CRT monitor at work. I made the mistake of putting a live plant on the shelve above my monitor. I over watered the plant once and it leaked some water into the top of my monitor (through all the vent slits in the top). It did all kinds of sparking and hissing. It was not happy. I immediately shut down my monitor, removed as much water as I could so no more could enter, removed the plant so I would never make that mistake again, and just left the monitor alone overnight (I did this just before I left for home). I came in the next day and everything worked just fine. I guess the monitor was warm enough after being on all day that the water evaporated before it could do much, if any, damage. Glad it wasn’t the CPU.
Free tip for Pluggers if a spill causes malfunction. Immediately shut off, unplug and remove battery is possible. Take it to a professional who will carefully rinse with distilled water and dry in multiple positions for several days. (Not responsible for do-it-yourselfers.) Try mixing decaffeinated with caffeinated to reduce those jitters. My cup is half-full of caffeinated and half-full of decaffeinated. :)

Isn’t that what cats do. Knock things over or push stuff off a table.

Time to get out a big tub of rice in hopes the coffee didn’t completely soak the circuits.

Come to think of it, the very first time I remember fluids being spilled on electronics was, work with me people, in a bowling alley!

I keep all liquids far away from my key boards. But I can almost snack on the food crumbs I blow out of the key boards during monthly cleaning.
