Local guy does a hunting/fishing column in the paper. He is constantly warning about thin ice. But still people don’t believe the warnings and have to be rescued. The good thing though is that towns are turning tennis courts into ice rinks for the winter to avoid the problem.
There is learning from school classes; lessons learned in life and there are adventures in life. Sadly, this adventure was foiled again, as you so correctly stated, by adults who have forgotten the joys of life. Doesn’t mean that you can’t take an extra long recess and go back later….
One of the great “joys” of school was riding that freezing, out of control, drafty, yellow monster called a bus. It was a great incentive in high school to get a car.

Wallace, Wallace, Wallace. Wait until the first toilet break and then skip school. No one’ll know you ever left class.

If Wallace and gang are on their way to or from school, why aren’t the kids who are playing hockey? Or are they playing hooky?

Guess if Will “Yes” Henry was driving the bus, they’d be joining that hockey game!

Nice drawing first panel: an arched, wooden, narrow bridge with no guard rails. What could possibly go wrong?

Wallace, I like you guts. You would be a good salesman. You skip school almost every day.

At least Wallace has tried.

I suspect the bus driver is well experienced dealing with Wallace’s antics by now.

The high school hockey league is practicing now. It is similar to playing against rhinos.

The giveaway was wearing your skates to school. The puck in your pocket. The folding hockey stick was tucked in his backpack.
