Blade Runner was set in 2019. Pacific Rim and Real Steel were set in 2020 (!). The Purge, Geostorm, Time Runner, Alien Intruder, and of course Soylent Green were set in 2022.

I started working with computers in 1968, retired in 2004. We have no “smart” devices, as I learned long ago that simple is better and more reliable. I do not need $90 light bulbs or a thermostat that is connected, but can’t control the heat pump properly.

When technology supposedly “improves” our lives, we all understand the supposed benefits but we are rarely aware of the costs and our losses due to those benefits until AFTER that technology is in place and by then. it’s too late to go back or change…..

In 2001: A Space Odyssey they predicted video phones that were attached to the walls; the irony is that we now have hand held, portable phones that can do that, but everyone prefers to text instead.

Star Trek TOS was set in 2265 and yet our phones of 2022 can do more than the communicators and PADD’s combined.
