In addition to the medicinal and digestive smells that seem to compound an older person’s life, there is also a change in body odor. Nothing new — our body odor changes at different stages of life. The is a newborn baby smell and definitely an adolescent smell. The baby smell is both a bonding and a protective device. For many mammals, the young don’t smell like the adults to protect them from predators. Young adult smells (definitely stronger than later) may be linked to mating. The odor associated with old people is often described as sweet and musty. Not sure what that is supposed to indicate, but I do remember that smell from grandparents and later my parents. Also not sure if changing soaps, perfumes, etc. will help. But it’s worth a try.
Yeah, instead of their cologne announcing their arrival or departure, it’s the vapors of menthol from various joint lineaments used to ward off the “Snap, Crackle, Pop” syndrome.
Bengay would likely go bust without their sales to the elderly. One of my most vivid memories of my grandmother was the pungent smell from her coating herself with the stuff every night.

Heel balm is the absolute worst! Old folks residence of my uncle had all 20 stories reeking of it.
But it works! Just those stray cats that keep following me is getting annoying.
