One of my last jobs had an unwritten rule, “Don’t ever leave, if you do you will be blamed for every wrong thing everyone can think of”. I did my best to deserve all the blame I could before I quit.
I had a customer who would drop back-dated requests on my desk when he thought I was gone for the day. He tried to blame me for his projects being late. He didn’t know I had a good relationship with his boss because I’d worked with her before.

So, this means that Melvin still gets paid? If he ever gets back he can retire.

Ah! So it’s a Baptist organization. Whoever isn’t there gets volunteered/promoted/blamed.

When you leave an organization, you provide a convenient excuse for everything that goes wrong for at least the next 6 months.
