Rusty, a dachshund I had ate so much once that he was having trouble breathing. Somehow, Nuggett’s food dish had gotten knocked over. Nuggett was a 65 lb goldie-mix, so it was a lot of food relative to a 14 lb doxie. Added a couple bricks to the food stand for stability.
We had a dog who ate in such a dainty way: she took out two or three pieces of food from her bowl, and then place it beside it, and then proceed to chew those pieces one at a time. She was our first dog, years and years ago. So we asked the vet if this is normal, seeing as in commercials dogs eat in such a voracious manner. The vet said that for her breed it was completely normal.
Then she told us the secret of why dogs are so enthusiastic about dog food in the adds. She said that the bottom of the dog food bowl is either smeared with bacon or some kind of other tasty fat, or it has a piece of bologna, or a ham stuck on the botton in addition to that fat, and the dog is searching for it, and not really eating that dog food that’s advertized.
She knows what she’s talking about because not only does she have show dogs, but also the same ones have been in dog food commercials….
(Our other dogs since then, also ate slowly, and not spill anything all along the sides, but they didn’t take out the food one at a time, as the first one did.)

Well, he’s not skattling so he’s not chasing squirrels, or badgers.
