The only way that I learned was to keep on trying till I stopped falling on my arse. Then I had to stop falling on my face. But after awhile, I managed to stay vertical and move around.

No, you get to skate on a cushion of water, while he gets to skate on a cushion of air.

A few pointers:
Bend your knees.
Put ALL your weight on just one skate.
The other skate is held just off the ice beside the active skate.
Every 2 seconds or so, push SIDEWAYS and shift weight to the other skate.

Wear a skate that’s properly designed and has two blades running parallel underfoot for proper stability.
