Okay. I admit to getting only two by myself, and needing a few websites for the rest. See “Reply” for some of ’em.

I remember an old Don Martin cartoon from Mad (you can tell I didn’t waste my formative years).

A waitress in a diner is throwing around this kind of jargon. “Cold pig on a green sea”, “American Charlie with red pants”. After a flurry of activity for each item, the cook hands her a plate and repeats it back to her.

A man rushes up to the counter and asks the cook, “where’s the men’s room Mac? Gotta go and no foolin’”. There’s another flurry of activity, and then the cook hands him a plate, saying “where’s the men’s room Mac? Gotta go and no foolin”.

It would work better if I had a link for the actual cartoon.

Some day I’d love to be in a diner where they actually do this.

I recently watched a W.C. Fields scene on Youtube titled “The Diner Scene”. It’s a lot like this.

OK, “Drag Wimpy through Wisconsin” is obviously a cheeseburger, and I think “Dough well done with cow to cover” would be chipped beef on toast (AKA “SOS”); I’m clueless on the rest.

They had a scene like this in “Emperor’s New Groove”:

Waitress: Ordering. Three pork combos, extra bacon on the side, two chili cheese samplers, a basket of liver and onion rings, a catch of the day, and a steak cut in the shape of a trout. You got all that, honey?

Kronk: Three oinkers wearing pants, plate of hot air, basket of Grandma’s breakfast and change the bull to a gill, got it.

Do any waitresses/waiters and cooks still actually do this? Is there any benefit to it? Surely it’s not quicker than saying the actual menu item. Maybe it’s for fun/to show off for customers?

As a dumb German, I don’t recognize any of those. But I can say that although I don’t know which of the dishes is well done, the strip is done well.
