I have 2 hundreds, 1 ten and 6 ones, to break that down further the 2 hundreds break down to 21 tens and 6 ones. It goes on from there. I just tell the 7yo, “ look. Here is how to do it, plain, simple and right.
There are actually workbooks that ask for an essay answer to this. I could never prove my answers in geometry- even though they were right – so I would be dead doing this !
