Sounds like the house my son bought last fall. Fixed up the basement level really nice to be a mother-in-law unit. She moved in, brought her furniture. The whole floor flooded in the first heavy rain. They had to throw out the new rugs and tear out the sheetrock. Sellers never disclosed any flooding problem. Mother-in-law moved upstairs.
I remember waking up one morning years ago and thinking a cat must have peed on my feet. Then I realized the wetness was very cold. My ceiling was leaking on my bed, and I hadn’t seen any signs of a potential leak. I used to go up in the attic fairly regularly looking for issues I got a new roof. The guy was a creep, implied he would lower the price if I would, um, lower my standards. I just told him to put the roof up and I would be home after work.
During the buying frenzy over the past couple of years, there were many homes being sold (even after bidding wars) that would have stayed unsold during any other year because of the condition of the home. But people were so desperate to buy due to the low interest rates, they paid over asking price for lemons. The regret is starting to set in, from what I read. A lot of buyer’s remorse happening right now.
I personally know 2 people who bought homes during the frenzy, and one is almost completely regretting her purchase and the other is starting to question her purchase as well.

Don’t you have laws to protect the buyer and hold the seller responsible?
My roof tiles contain blue asbestos (from before it was illegal), and I’m obligated, by law, to warn a prospective buyer of the potential danger…

Not sure about easier, maybe cheaper. Roofing salespeople are as common as window salespeople!
