I think it is a game—we used to have a drinking game called quarters where you put a glass of beer in the middle of the table, and everyone took turns trying to bounce their quarter into the glass. Winner (or maybe it was the loser had to chug the beer but got a quarter from each participant. Nickles in a brassiere seems like more fun.
