I have enormous sympathy for the coaches of kids teams in comic strips. Because it’s a comic, the kids never change, which means they’re never going to get any better at the sport.
Let’s see Rose should know the rules forward and backward, she should be the Base Coach one of the brains of field management. Wallace has to be catcher as he’ll regale the batters with non-stop banter to distract them – shades of Yogi Berra. Amelia is the on field persona of Ty Cobb. Sterling can be the pitcher, channeling Al Hrabosky – The Mad Hungarian. Spud has to be the announcer ala’ Bob Uecker. Gary can be the Designated Hitter, he seems to be big enough to hit more than just a sandwich out of the park. The Sasquatch can be the pinch runner, no one would ever see him steal away or for that matter catch him.

Cartoonist often put themselves in their drawings. I wonder if Will Henry is Ordinary Bill or Wallace’s dad.

Coach, that’s your job to teach them—and, remember, telling is not teaching . .

Yeah, that whole “rule” thing might be a bit more important for the moment, Wallace.

Nice spring sky. Not too bright, plenty of cumulus clouds.
