I give him credit for being out on the floor. I swear, there must be a big break room in the back of our big, orange store where all of the employees stay. They send out one or two on a rotation basis. But, nobody is ever knowledgeable about any other area other than their own.
Years ago, one of the guys I worked with got a part time job there. He said he had to learn about each dept and where things were. I don’t think that happens any more. And, it’s not just the store where I live; I hear the same thing from friends in other states.
It’s the same for a local fast food place. We don’t even bother going to the local purple and white taco place any more because we know the order will be wrong. Again, my sister is back east and most of my friends are on the west coast and they all say the same thing.
I hate stores like this one, with one door to enter, and the exit is another, usually on the other end of the building, so that no matter where you park, you have to walk a distance to your car. Stores like that don’t see much of me in the winter/rain/snow/etc.

Went to one of them hardware stores where they wore an apron that had “Ask Me” on it, so I did. And they did not know anything. Go figure.

Having a sense of accomplishment for not messing up is setting the bar low. Now a sense of accomplishment that you still have a job.
