At this point Mrs Dear, aren’t you just cream attractive nuisance for Fredmplacing things where he can reach it. He is a wonderful companion but Fred is still…well…a Basset’
You are guilty. You have no self-control. HOWEVER, Mrs. Dear is complicit in your misbehavior as she insists on leaving goodies within your reach. She knows you are useless as far as resisting them. She needs to yell at herself also.
As someone who used to live with a countersurfing dog, my friend’s English Shedder, I learned quickly how to keep goodies out of his reach. Why hasn’t Ms. Dear figured this out?
Seems pointless to blame a dog for being a dog. However, there is the comic effect of our beloved Fred helping himself to whatever goodies are within reach. One of our first experiences with such behaviour was fish-sticks vanishing off a hot grill.

Dear Mrs. Dear, remember who left the morsels on the table. Do you ever learn?

Fred has a problem common to many cartoon and comic strip dogs: he goes back and forth between his anthropomorphic qualities and his canine instincts.

Fred! You’re a Basset, not a Beagle!

Fred will never learn how not to snitch sausages on the dish. Clever, but mischievous.

Find a better place outside of Fred’s reach.
