In the last comic book series I wrote, the last issue (which never saw print) had one character spin a tale of ‘vast herds’ of cantaloupes sweeping across the veldt. Obviously he had absolutely no clue as to what a cantaloupe was, but was vastly unwilling to admit it. Terrie Smith, the artist, sketched in something like a gangling, round-chested giraffe.
