This is all the constitution guaranteed when it was written.

It can be argued that the term “arms” must be understood in the modern sense, but “well regulated militia” is easily understood. For almost 200 years there was no private “right” to weapons of war, until and activist right wing court decided to change what the Second amendment intended.

100% FLASE CLAIM! The Framers never wanted the government to have a monopoly of the gun. Also they would want Americas to have full-on assault rifles, because that is the weapon a light infantryman would need.

Are America’s gun owners part of a regulated militia? Not at all, they should be treated like people in the National Guard. If you want to own a gun you should be required to report for duty, without pay, for a couple of weeks every year.

Exchange all “AR Platform” weapons with muskets and we’re right with the founding fathers intent. Oh, and you need to keep your ammo stock fully reported to your local militia leaders too.

According to James Madison (who helped write the thing) said that it extended to cannons.

If this silly cartoon is correct then the freedom of speech only applies to quill, ink, and paper. Stop being morons.

Using this logic we would still be under the tyrannical rule of the British monarchy because we would have been limited to fighting with sticks and stones against firearms.

There is no need to change the 2nd Amendment, we need to enforce the 2nd Amendment. The majority of NRA members, and majority of all Americans favor gun regulations. Former Republican Supreme Court Justice and conservative ‘constitutional originalist’ Antonin Scalia said the 2nd Amendment allows for regulation. I doubt I agree with anything else Scalia supported, but he was right about the constitution calling for regulation of firearms.

Automatic weapons are illegal, and have been illegal since 1933. The AR15 is semi-automatic, and any modifications to make it fire as an automatic is illegal.

Semi-automatic weapons include pistols, rifles and shot guns. The AR15 is being targeted as an ‘assault rifle’ by dishonest politicians on both sides. The AR15 is NOT an assault rifle. It is not an automatic weapon and an assault rifle must be fully automatic to be an assault rifle. The AR15 functions the same as any other semi-automatic weapon, such as the M1 Garand, carbines, and a host of hunting rifles. In fact, some use the AR15 for hunting. It just looks different. It looks like the M16A1 or the M4 fully automatic assault rifle. It’s looks are based in contemporary/modern design versus the older wood stock weapons.

Don’t be fooled by those whose agenda is to confuse people, rather than solve the issue. Know the facts and not the hype. Misidentifying or mislabeling allow for legal loopholes that will defeat the purpose of legislation. We need to make smart decisions, not knee-jerk reaction to supposed ‘leaders’ who aren’t interested in doing the hard work to solve the issue.

The Founders were wary of the cost and potential for misuse of a large standing army (note the oft-forgotten Third Amendment). They also were modeling on the early Roman Republic that required property-owning citizens to serve in the military to defend Rome with their own weapons and equipment. The last half was never meant to stand alone, else why precede it with the well-regulated militia clause?

Knives are more regulated than guns, also so with, “It shall be unlawful for any person willfully and intentionally to carry concealed about his person any bowie knife, dirk, dagger, slung shot, loaded cane, metallic knuckles, razor, shurikin, stun gun, or other deadly weapon of like kind….” North Carolina state law.

I have a lock back pocketknife with a 3 3/8-inch blade, which makes it legal in Raleigh, but illegal in Cary (3 inch or less).

So Trump is a law abiding citizen. So he says. Although he owes over $100,000 in contempt fine. Fined for improperly using his charitable fund for his own use. Not to mention Trump University Scam.

There are some very interesting comments here. I’m in the UK and I’m a former Royal Air Force Marksman having proved my ability many years ago and each following year during my 27 years service on the Browning 9mm pistol, SLR rifle, Sterling sub-machine gun and the old Le Enfield 303 rifle. I also won the RAF Sporting Clay Pigeon championship back in 1987 and I’m what Americans call a hunter. Now as most gun owners in the USA should know, the UK has one of the most stringent criteria for gun ownership in the world. Pistols and auto weapons in very small numbers of course get smuggled into the UK by the criminal element. However our police are very good at containing their use. From the records I receive from the stateside weekly, there is more deaths and wounding from firearms in one of your small city’s than there is in the whole of the UK in a year.So I thank God that we have such gun controls in the UK and our stringent police vetting procedures. On application for a shotgun or hunting rifle, the police check to see if you have a criminal record and do other background medical checks with your registered doctor. They also call at you house and check to see that the cabinet is of the government approved type with the 7-lever mortis locks or dial combination lock. Your ammo must also be stored away from the gun cabinet in an approved locked ammo safe. The police can also come to your house at anytime unannounced and have a right of entry to check that you are following the correct procedures.

While I cannot see that these procedures will ever take place in the USA, something must be done to vet and control the type of person that is allowed to hold a firearm in America otherwise such tragedies will keep occurring.

By the above argument. all the freedoms of the First Amendment would be limited t technology of the day. Hand written manuscripts, newspapers printed one page at a time on a hand operated press, etc.
