I swear at crows multiple times in a day. During the time of year that the crows are feeding their hatchlings, they carry pieces of hamburger buns, pet kibble, deli meat – anything they can scrounge from the dumpsters in the local shopping centers. AND they put it all in my BIRD BATH. I assume they want it softened up to feed the chicks but it turns my birdbath into a sewer in no time at all!!! I have to clean it out as many as 5 times a day so my bees, wasps, birds, squirrels and visiting cat can drink! I can’t see any reason for crows to exist. What do they contribute? They regularly attack the pair of Cooper’s Hawks that have come here every single year to mate. If I had Aladdin’s lamp my first wish would be that all crows disappear from the planet.
I’ve noticed that English has very few compound nouns consisting of a verb and object, and they tend to be derogatory and/or archaic: scarecrow, pickpocket, cutthroat, cutpurse, scofflaw, quakebuttock…
