Field rats were seen in our town dump early this spring. Then a family of foxes showed up and now there are no field rats at the dump. The Foxes moved on but as a parting gift cleaned out most of the rabbits and by the sounds of it many feral cats. Gotta love foxes.
Reminds me of an old Sylvester the Cat cartoon where he kept seeing an escaped kangaroo and his son kept seeing a timid little mouse—“Son, the mouse was a big as a house!”.

We had yard rats for a while. I set up a red-neck water trap. The rats were pretty big.
