ANNIE was the only dog I could take to firework displays. Part Red Heeler, part Jack Russel Terrier, all deaf, 100%.
Today I have Binger (Blue Heeler) and when the fireworks go off at the nearby venue, he goes under my desk. Quiet the last 2 years due to covid shutdowns, but the fireworks are back this year, poor guy.
Fireworks are illegal here – even sparklers! One would never know it. In normal times we are generally away for July 4th in a state where they are legal. Since the pandemic started we have been home (and in the house about 98% of the time) and have not gone away. It is like a war zone here. Tonight (July 3rd) we had ongoing fireworks from 3 different directions – and some of them are the shells which are shot into the air as in a professional show. It is terrifying. Last year a couple of guys were setting them off in the middle of the cars driving on our street – which is a 4 lane main road – I was never so terrified of something blowing up in my life. Husband and I belong to a 18th century reenacting unit. I have fired modern rifles, reproduction black powder rifle, musket, fowler and cannon so I am not anti all things which go “bang” but this close to houses (houses are on less than 60ft by 100ft plots) is terrifying about the safety of our house, cars, and even more so – US.
Our town outlawed home fireworks after some tweens threw a firework across the walkway fence into a townhouse back yard. Three kids playing camp-out, a petroleum byproduct tent, fire melting it all over their skin, melting into their cells. They survived, but every elementary school class was made of only kids who could handle seeing them without screaming or crying. (Parental permission required.) This will give an idea of the damage: one was not allowed in the pool because he couldn’t close where his mouth used to be, so drowning was a possibility. The tent fire was long ago. Though professionals since then do great celebration shows (yay), you still have to go out of town to buy and use amateur fireworks.Go Drones!
Most Americans nowadays are unaware that the Fourth of July is more than BANG, BOOM, WHIZZ!
It celebrates American independence from British rule and the founding of a great nation!!
How many Americans know that two major Founding Fathersand ex-POTUS’ (John Adams and Thomas Jefferson) passed away exactly 50 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence—July 4, 1826??
two of my granddaughter’s aged 5 and 7 were calling our nations flag the Fourth of July flag. I taught them about the Stars and Stripes and the meaning.
Our next-door neighbors had a party with illegal fireworks the other night. I thought we’d moved to downtown Kiev. (Ever tried to sleep wearing noise-cancelling headphones?) I can certainly understand why former service personnel avoid firework displays!
When it started getting dark we were hearing fireworks seemingly quite near by – but husband said that they were repeating too often not to be a professional show. There is a county park about 3 miles away (with houses and businesses in between) and this started around when that show would start and ended around ditto – so we figure that somehow we were hearing those fireworks (plus all the other ones including one set of fireworks which may or may not have been professional as there was nothing listed for where it was, but it looked like same per husband.
So, the county park fireworks – somehow fireworks hit something and caused a fire near the end of the show – and these were experts running the show!

If hadn’t mentioned, we wouldn’t have notice she was missing, cause she usually is.
