I used to do that, and every December, have enough money to buy Christmas gifts. Now I use my credit card all the time, but it pays me cash back, which I still save up and use it for my birthday and Christmas (for myself now).
My husband and I did that most of our marriage. We even put $1 bills in a bank envelope and when we got to $50, we would seal the envelope and after getting together a coupke more we would take them to our credit us amazing how much money you can save. My credit union has it now where they round up the total to the next dollar when you use yoyr debit card and put that amount in a savings account.
