When I was young, my mom decided I needed to learn how to swim. She didn’t know herself, so she asked the rather large woman next door to teach me. The problem is (though I didn’t know it at 6 years old), that I don’t float above water. Really. I even sink in salt water pools. She kept trying to teach me to float on my back and I kept going under. She’d kept saying, “You’re just not relaxing. Now watch me.” After two or three hour+ sessions of this, they finally gave that effort up.

The “dog paddle” never works as a back stroke.

We had a Maine C o o n a few years ago. She loved the water and would do laps in the pool One of the few breeds of cats that actually like water.
Edited: because this site is waco on their banned words.

Cats may not like the water but they are actually pretty good swimmers…..

Don’t worry, kitty. It’s only about a foot deep. You can touch bottom.
