Last surgery I had, I decided to mess with the staff. I wore safety socks from a previous procedure at a different facility. When I woke up, I was wearing the current facility’s color and the ones I wore were tucked neatly in my shoes.
Had a CT scan a couple of months ago, they billed Medicare/BC-BS $1800 and then accepted $375. There is a difference between non-profit and not for profit, most hospitals now are either for profit, usually Hca hospitals and not for profit. In Austin all of the general hospitals are operated by Hca (profit) or Catholic Seton ( not for profit) so there is no real competition to keep prices down.
My late husband couldn’t wear them – his feet were in such poor condition that wearing the sock messed up the skin on the bottom of his feet and caused open wounds. He was a diabetic with feet problems already – I had to fight to keep them OFF his feet. Just one day in them would cause open wounds that bled and he would have to have wound care added to whatever procedure he came in for.
I used to wear thick felt-like socks to sleep in. But they wore out and could not find them again. Anything similar in similar heavy fabric or even in heavy woven had the dots on them. I wear in bed to keep my feet warm while sleeping (winter and summer) and the safety dots were a problem. I keep repairing the old socks to use. (Also sleep fully dressed in different clothing than during day due to being cold almost all the time.)

Speaking of safety socks ones new years eve I got a bad case of diverticulitis and had to sit in the hospital over night as they ran tests .
A nurse comes in and says are your feet cold would you like some complimentary socks?
I says sure why not 3 months later when the bill comes itemized into the bill one pair of socks $40 that little old lady conned me lol .

Yes, wear safety socks, especially on slick wood or tile floors and maybe on stairs. Many pluggers have passed away from falls.
