Fifty years ago, Carl Yastrzemski was playing for the richest salary in baseball … and was being slagged by the fans and the press for two (relatively) mediocre seasons. And his annual salary was what Mike Trout makes in about four innings of work.
My grandson played his first season of football as a lineman. He is currently attending football camp, trying to become a wide receiver. Even at 15 years old he knows where the money/fame/girls are to be found.
I had a chuckle at this. Tank’s repeating my late brother’s favorite line. Back in the early ‘70s, after serving in the Navy, he tried out ( on a dare ) for the N.Y. Giants. To everyone’s surprise – he was hired and spent 2 years on the taxi squad. I don’t think he ever actually saw any playing time.
When asked how much he got paid, he always said, " You have to remember I was a lineman! "
He once told me that between the G.I. Bill and his salary from the Giants, he was barely able to afford to complete his Master’s Degree at UCONN!
Up until the mid 70’s until the leagues folded (Continental & Atlantic), to get playing time the Giants used to send their taxi squaders to the Westchester Bulls……

Great to see that Tank is humble about this.
